D-Tech Awarded SBIR Phase II Contract

D-Tech LLC has been awarded a Phase II contract as part of the small business innovation research program (SBIR) for the Department of Navy (DON). The Phase II project, “Advanced Threat Detection and Analysis Using Multi-Dimensional Machine Learning for Industrial Control Systems (ICS)”, will focus on keeping DON industrial control systems (ICS) protected from harmful cyber-attacks. After a successful completion of Phase I R&D and a prototype demo, D-Tech competed against over 70 Phase I awardees and won the Phase II award successfully.

The goal of the SBIR Phase II was to provide the DON and other stakeholders with a robust and scalable software solution for real-time threat detection and analytics. Using the latest ML technology, the D-Tech team takes an integrated approach to data ingestion and anomaly identification, delivering robust and accurate detection results and causation insights. Equipped with advanced ML models and data analytics functions, the proposed software will provide operation teams and security analysts with a powerful tool for continuous threat monitoring and mitigation in ICS environments.

Aimed to develop a multi-dimensional ML framework, this SBIR will fill an important technology gap in applying machine learning to ICS cybersecurity. Naval control and related systems are special types of ICS that require extreme security protection from cyber-attacks. D-Tech’s solution will help secure and protect critical ICS assets from potential cyber threats while maximizing operation capacity of ICS under attacks.

After a successful completion of Phase I in research, development, and proof of concept, the D-Tech team is eager to continue working on the project.

The product in development through this project has been named Zenurian. Zenurian is a web-based tool that uses advanced machine learning (ML) for real-time threat detection and analytics. Using the latest ML technology, Zenurian takes an integrated approach to data ingestion and anomaly identification, delivering robust and accurate detection results and causation insights. Naval systems and defense weapons/systems are special types of ICS that require extreme security protection from cyber-attacks. D-Tech’s software, Zenurian will work to keep these critical operations protected while still maintaining operation. The Phase II technical effort will conclude in October, 2020.

“The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) with the potential for commercialization. Through a competitive awards-based program, SBIR and STTR enable small businesses to explore their technological potential and provide the incentive to profit from its commercialization. By including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated, and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs” (https://www.sbir.gov/about).
